Universal Design is a holistic approach to the design of products and environments that are functional, attractive, convenient, and support independence for people of all ages and abilities. An educational DVD provides an introduction to Universal Design elements, discusses how Universal Design features are helpful and appropriate for all members of your family, and highlights examples of Universal Design features in a kitchen and bathroom. Production of the video was made possible with the support of Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse and Dave Fox Remodeling. The DVD is available for purchase on the OSU Extension eStore. Short previews of several video segments are available below.

Loadman Household

Loadman Family

Video: Universal Design Case Study 1

Client: The Loadman Family

Background: The Loadman's contacted Dave Fox Remodeling wanting to move the location of their garage and enlarge their kitchen without losing the natural light in their home. They have lived in their home for 30 years and would like to continue living there as long as possible. In working with Dave Fox we offered to do a full home assessment to show them some Universal Design features they could implement in the remodeling process.

Lashbrook Household

Video: Universal Design Case Study 2

Client: April Lashbrook

Background: As a new homeowner with a young child, April was interested in knowing about Universal Design. We did a full home assessment on her house and pointed out some features that would make her home more safe and convenient for her and her daughter. Some of the features we showed her she may change in the near future and others she may keep in mind for the future.
