Unless you're going to gobble up everything you got at the farmers market as soon as you arrive home, you're going to have to store that produce somehow. Though some hardy vegetables such as onions and potatoes do best in a cool, dry, dark pantry, more often you're going to be using the refrigerator. But don't plan on just throwing bags of produce into the fridge and forgetting about them.

The CDC has issued a food safety alert regarding a multistate outbreak of Salmonella Oranienburg infections. The CDC advises people who have unlabeled whole red, white, or yellow onions at home to throw them away and not eat them. People should not eat, and businesses should not sell or serve, whole onions that were imported from Chihuahua, Mexico, and distributed by ProSource Inc. <Read more...>

Buurma Farms Inc. of Willard, OH, is voluntarily recalling 320 boxes of its Plain Parsley after testing showed possible contamination with Shiga-toxin producing E.coli. The product being recalled is Buurma Plain (flat leaf) Parsley with a harvest date of August 30, 2021 from their Gregory, Michigan location. The wholesale distribution channels involved in the recall do not have the twist-tie and instead have only a plain red rubber band on the bunch. The product involved should already be out of distribution but if consumers have any product they question, do not consume it, but rather discard it.
