Ohio State Convenes Buckeye Summit to Tackle Hunger and Food Insecurity
Columbus, Ohio – Approximately 600 members of Buckeye Nation convened for change at the inaugural Buckeye Summit on April 14. Delegates from 17 states and as far away as London and Bejing engaged in an interactive town hall focused on one of the most complex and important issues of our time: food security.

Family and Consumer Sciences Program Specialist Amanda Woods, Healthy Finances, gave a financial wellness presentation on April 6 to undergraduate Ohio State students and U.S. Representative Steve Stivers, 15th district of Ohio. The Journal of Science Policy & Governance recently published a study regarding beverage-related policies among 28 Ohio organizations during 2014 and 2015. The study, co-authored by Family and Consumer Sciences’ Jennifer Lobb, Carol Smathers and Sodexo’s Ellen Hashiguchi, examined organizational policies regarding the consumption of water as the healthy beverage of choice.

During the May 6 Ohio State University Outreach and Engagement Forum, numerous OSU Extension programs were featured. The Forum provided an opportunity to interact with Ohio State’s outreach and engagement community, share outreach and engagement work and make connections with potential collaborators.

Extension Educator Pat Brinkman, Fayette County, was honored recently at the National Extension Association for Family and Consumer Sciences 2015 annual session, “Tradition to guide us, Knowledge to share, Innovation to succeed.” She was a member of the Live Healthy Live Well team that received third place National and second place Region Program Excellence through Research Award at the conference held November 2-5 in White Sulphur Springs, WV.
