Supporting Farm Families Coping with Dementia

June 23, 2025

Older agricultural workers face a higher risk of dementia putting themselves and their families at increased risk of injury and making it harder to safely age in place on the farm. Yet, most safety programs don’t address the unique challenges of dementia in rural, agricultural settings. That's why researchers from the University of Iowa and University of Illinois Chicago developed Farm Families Coping with Dementia (FFCD)—free, 4-week online program designed for family members and caregivers of farmers showing signs of dementia.

  • Four Weekly Zoom sessions led by Extension professionals
  • Learn about dementia, farm safety, managing caregiving, and effective communication
  • Connect with others in ag communities
  • Earn up to $50 for your participation
  • We're looking for adults (18+) with a family member living or working on a farm with dementia (diagnosed or suspected). Sessions begin July 2025 or January 2026 (randomly assigned).
