The annual Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) Educator Day was celebrated on February 11, with recognition continuing throughout the week. This observance honors the invaluable contributions FCS educators make in schools and communities, while also encouraging others to pursue careers in the field. FCS Educator Day is part of the Say Yes to FCS: Filling the Educator Pipeline campaign, a collaborative initiative supported by 10 national FCS organizations.
Family and Consumer Sciences, which has its roots in home economics, draws from a wide range of disciplines to develop programs that strengthen critical thinking and problem‑solving skills. Through the discovery and delivery of research‑based knowledge, FCS professionals help individuals and families build essential life and work skills needed in today’s complex world. Their expertise spans many areas central to daily life—from fostering healthy lifestyles and managing personal and family finances to cultivating strong, supportive relationships.
FCS professionals serve nationwide in a variety of settings, including secondary education, higher education, government agencies, and business and industry. The work they do is important, effective, and life‑changing. Their impact on individuals, families, and communities is both meaningful and inspiring.
This annual celebration is held during Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Week and is designed to honor current FCS educators while motivating students to consider the FCS education profession.
