Mental wellness is foundational to the broader continuum of wellbeing and prevention for individuals, families, and communities. Mental Wellness is an element of the Buckeye Dimensions of Wellness across the life span and an important part of overall wellbeing. Mental wellness programs support Extension’s vision, in which, Ohioans have the knowledge and resources they need to actively engage creating conditions in which they thrive.
There are many factors of rising stress and adversity today for both youth and adults. While mental wellness is correlated to healthy habits and wellness boosters, such as, getting enough sleep, exercise, proper nutrition, and mindfulness, long standing research indicates increasing resiliency, protective factors and assets provides further safeguards from some of the effects of distress, adversities, and even trauma.
Family and Consumer Sciences Mental Wellness team strives to inform, educate, and support mental wellness throughout Ohio communities.
The Global Wellness Institute defines mental wellness as an "internal resource that helps us think, feel, connect and function; it is an active process that helps us to build resilience, grow, and flourish."

- QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer - the 3 simple steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. QPR is an evidence-based suicide prevention program where participants are empowered to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help.
