Troubleshooting Log-in Errors

You will need to type in your OSU Internet username (your "name.nn") and password and click on the 'Go' button.

  • If you haven't activated your OSU Internet Username. The follow these instructions: An OSU Internet Username takes the form name.#, for example, doe.999. Start here to Activate Your OSU Internet Username, then click on the Activate account tab. Contact the OIT Technology Support Center at 8help@osu.edu or (614) 688-HELP for assistance. Once you complete this step, you can begin using the e-mail service provided by OIT or have your e-mail forwarded to your preferred ISP. You can also begin visiting important Web resources such as the OSU Web site, the student information page, and the OIT site for technology resources.  
  • If you are unsure what your password is, you can test possible passwords here: https://acctmgt.service.ohio-state.edu/Password.html. Just select the 'verify your password tab'. If you don't remember your password, then you will need to contact 8help@osu.edu for more asssistance (688-HELP).
  • If you have already activited your OSU Internet Username, and are still having problems logging in or if you have any other questions, then contact Marc Flinn (flinn.3@osu.edu).
  • How to Create and Protect Your Password When you are issued your OSU Internet Username, you are also asked to create a password. Effective passwords contain more than six characters and a combination of cases, letters, and numbers. They should not be words found in the dictionary or other identifiable phrases. To safeguard any password, don’t share it or leave it where anyone else could find it; don’t let others look over your shoulder as you type it; and change it at least once per quarter.  
  • How to Change Your Password It is a good idea to change your password regularly to help protect the integrity of the campus Internet and your network privileges. Start here to change the password associated with your OSU Internet Username, then choose the Change password tab. Contact the OIT Technology Support Center at 8help@osu.edu or 688-HELP for assistance. If accepted, your new password should go into effect in about one hour.
